Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Establish carbon footprint
   • Identify sources of carbon emissions within the organisation
   • Establish quantity of carbon emissions for each source
   • Compile data to determine carbon footprint for work area
2. Plan carbon emissions reduction
   • Access and interpret organisational carbon reduction policies and procedures, contractual obligations and legislative requirements 2.2 Research best practice approaches to identify potential ways to reduce workplace carbon emissions
   • Provide carbon emissions information to the work team in a clear, concise and accessible manner
   • Seek suggestions and ideas about carbon emissions reduction from the work team
   • Calculate costs and savings associated with carbon emission proposals
   • Develop a carbon management improvement plan and present to required stakeholders for approval
3. Implement and monitor a carbon management improvement plan
   • Communicate plan to work team
   • Allocate roles and responsibilities, and arrange required training
   • Execute implementation process in accordance with plan
   • 3.4 Provide ongoing support to those conducting the plan's activities
   • Establish and apply procedures for monitoring activities against achievement targets and adjust resources as necessary
4. Review carbon management improvement plan
   • Review implementation results in accordance with organisational requirements
   • Report on implementation results, according to internal and external reporting procedures
   • Maintain carbon reduction records accurately and legibly, and store securely

Performance Evidence

Evidence of the ability to:

measure carbon emissions and determine carbon footprint for a work area

present and discuss carbon emissions information

research and develop an approved carbon management improvement plan

implement and monitor a carbon management improvement plan, in accordance with legislative and organisational requirements

report on implementation of a carbon management improvement plan, according to organisational requirements.

To complete the unit requirements safely and effectively, the individual must:

explain the term 'carbon footprint'

list and describe sources of carbon emissions within the organisation

outline the legislative and regulatory context relevant to carbon management

outline the organisation’s policies, procedures and practices that relate to the carbon management improvement plan

summarise the organisational requirements for the storage of carbon reduction records

explain how to assess training needs within the organisation.
